Defa-e-Pakistan Council and Jamaat-ud-Dawa on Friday protested against the Indian trade fair being held at Expo Centre, saying that India is attempting to establish its regional hegemony. A large number of activists of religious organisations staged protest with placards and chanted slogans: "trade with India unacceptable", "Down with India", and "India is water thief" outside the Expo Centre.

Speaking to the protestors, chief of Jamaat-ud-Dawa, Karachi Engineer Naveed Qamar criticised India and said "India which is responsible for imposing wars on Pakistan cannot be a favoured nation of his country." Giving India as most favoured nation status, he said, will collapse Pakistan ultimately. "It is equally tantamount to pushing the nation towards disaster," he said, adding that India under the garb of trade is deploying spies in the country.

He said that India was involved in deteriorating law and order in Balochistan and "it is planning to establish its hegemony in South Asia". He said despite all agreements with Pakistan, India sticks to its hostility towards the country. Naveed warned that India has evolved its long-lasting policy to damage Pakistan's economy under the so-called friendship. He showed concerns over independent trade between Pakistan and India.

Slamming India, he said, the arch rival has seized all rivers streaming into Pakistan which indicates a clear hostile policy towards the lower riparian nation. He feared the stoppage of river water will bring catastrophe for Pakistan as its agriculture land will scale down yield with a passage of time for dearth of irrigation. The unprotected trade with India will increase unemployment in Pakistan, he maintained.
